“Maybe I was being naive. Even stupid. I mean, who would trade Standford for being homeless? […] But I had to know if I was meant to be a musician. Otherwise I’d spend the rest of my life regretting it. Asking myself… what if?”

BLURB:

When privileged 17-year-old Jasmine gets kicked out of her house, she takes what is left of her savings and flees to Santa Cruz to pursue her dream of becoming a musician. Jasmine finds the ideal room in an oceanfront house, but she needs to convince the three guys living there that she’s the perfect roommate and lead guitarist for their band, C-Side. Too bad she has major stage fright and the cute bassist doesn’t think a spoiled girl from over the hill can hack it. . .

Cover Art: 3 stars! It’s a refreshing look. I love that it isn’t the usual cutesy cover art type popular in YA novels.

Actual Review:

This book is so cute. I really like the heroine. She’s a realistic character. She has insecurities that she tries to overcome and she starts going for what she wants instead of becoming what her Dad envisioned her to be. She’s got guts, so to speak. The minor characters are multidimensional too. Kudos to the author for actually taking the time to tackle their traits. Each one has a fair share of flaws and awesomeness.

The romance is cute, a little cliffy in the end, but nevertheless sweet. The story is engaging and I love that it’s not focused on the romance but with the heroine’s journey to self-fulfillment instead.
