The Hathaways series features charming heroines and dashing heroes with quirks that make them unique and lovable. It’s a feel good read filled with heartwarming family relationship and banters. Poppy’s Tempt Me at Twilight is my favorite in the series.

“Never be afraid to hope,” Rohan said gently. “It’s the
only way to begin.”

When an unexpected inheritance elevates her family to the ranks of the aristocracy, Amelia Hathaway discovers that tending to her younger sisters and wayward brother was easy compared to navigating the intricacies of the ton. Even more challenging: the attraction she feels for the tall, dark, and dangerously handsome Cam Rohan.

Wealthy beyond most men’s dreams, Cam has tired of society’s petty restrictions and longs to return to his “uncivilized” Gypsy roots. When the delectable Amelia appeals to him for help, he intends to offer only friendship—but intentions are no match for the desire that blindsides them both. But can a man who spurns tradition be tempted into that most time-honored arrangement: marriage? Life in London society is about to get a whole lot hotter…

kleypas lisa, hathaways 2 seduce me at sunrise

“I love you, he thought, looking at Win. I love every part of you, every thought and word…the entire complex, fascinating bundle of all the things you are. I want you with ten different kinds of need at once. I love all the seasons of you, the way you are now, the thought of how much more beautiful you’ll be in the decades to come. I love you for being the answer to every question my heart could ask.”

He has tried hard to forget her.

Kev Merripen has longed for the beautiful, well-bred Winnifred Hathaway ever since her family rescued him from the brink of death when he was just a boy. But this handsome Gypsy is a man of mysterious origins—and he fears that the darkness of his past could crush delicate, luminous Win. So Kev refuses to submit to temptation… and before long Win is torn from him by a devastating twist of fate.

Can she remember the man he once was?

Then, Win returns to England… only to find that Kev has hardened into a man who will deny love at all costs. Meantime, an attractive, seductive suitor has set his sights on Win. It’s now or never for Kev to make his move. But first, he must confront a dangerous secret about his destiny—or risk losing the only woman he has lived for…

4 of 5 stars to Seduce Me at Sunrise by Lisa Kleypas

I was reading Mine Till Midnight but once Merripen and Win’s subplot began taking shape, I just couldn’t focus on Amelia and Cam anymore. I was more interested to read about Win’s story so I quit MTM and immediately jumped on this one. I do not regret my decision.

Seduce Me at Sunrise is a riveting tale about love at first sight that lasted through many tests and troubles. I just love the the strength Win showed throughout her ordeal and dealing with Kev’s stubbornness. I got to admit Kev annoyed me a lot but his devotion to Win more than made up for it. His love for Win is unrivaled. Just look at the quote I put above. His words can melt the hardest of hearts. This is my second favorite in the series.

kleypas lisa, hathaways 3 tempt me at twilight

“I have so much love for you, I could fill rooms with it. Buildings. You’re surrounded by it wherever you go, you walk through it, breathe it…it’s in your lungs, and under your tongue, and between your fingers and toes…”

He was everything she’d sworn to avoid.

Poppy Hathaway loves her unconventional family, though she longs for normalcy. Then fate leads to a meeting with Harry Rutledge, an enigmatic hotel owner and inventor with wealth, power, and a dangerous hidden life. When their flirtation compromises her own reputation, Poppy shocks everyone by accepting his proposal—only to find that her new husband offers his passion, but not his trust.

And she was everything he needed.

Harry was willing to do anything to win Poppy—except to open his heart. All his life, he has held the world at arm’s length…but the sharp, beguiling Poppy demands to be his wife in every way that matters. Still, as desire grows between them, an enemy lurks in the shadows. Now if Harry wants to keep Poppy by his side, he must forge a true union of body and soul, once and for all…

4 of 5 stars to Tempt Me at Twilight by Lisa Kleypas

I originally only wanted to read Poppy’s story because it’s sort of a prologue to Leo and Miss Mark’s. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I love this book so much, even more than Win and Merripen’s and that’s saying a lot. The previous book, Seduce Me at Sunrise, had undeniably strong and compelling lead characters but there were parts that became dragging. Tempt Me at Twilight, on the other hand, just had the right amount of drama and conflict that I enjoyed the experience so much more.

Harry Rutledge is also a very endearing hero for his devotion to Poppy. In fact, he and Merripen (from Seduce Me at Sunrise) seem to have the same passionate love for their wives only that Harry is assertive of his feelings (which I really liked) whereas Merripen is trying hard not to make anything of it. Harry is incredibly sweet but pushy yet I couldn’t fault him for that. His relentless pursuit of Poppy is what made their romance much more engaging. Poppy is just as amazing. I love how big her heart is and how understanding she is. Her caring ways make her so easy to love.

This is by far my favorite in the series and as usual, it’s the least rated because reserved and shy heroines that I love don’t get as much appreciation than bold ones, which is really saddening.

kleypas lisa, hathaways 4 married by morning

“I love you, Marks. My heart is completely and utterly yours. And unfortunately for you, the rest of me comes with it.”

He is everything she wants to avoid…

For two years, Catherine Marks has been a paid companion to the Hathaway sisters—a pleasant position, with one caveat. Her charges’ older brother, Leo Hathaway, is thoroughly exasperating. Cat can hardly believe that their constant arguing could mask a mutual attraction. But when one quarrel ends in a sudden kiss, Cat is shocked at her powerful response—and even more so when Leo proposes a dangerous liaison.

She is not at all what she seems…

Leo must marry and produce an heir within a year to save his family home. Catherine’s respectable demeanor hides a secret that would utterly destroy her. But to Leo, Cat is intriguing and infernally tempting, even to a man resolved never to love again. The danger Cat tried to outrun is about to separate them forever—unless two wary lovers can find a way to banish the shadows and give in to their desires…

4 of 5 stars to Married by Morning by Lisa Kleypas

I find myself having a hard time finishing this one. I felt like there were a lot of filler scenes that weren’t really needed so some parts became dragging. Maybe I just had high expectations for this one because it was most readers’ series favorite. While it’s a nice read, it’s not as enjoyable as the others.

kleypas lisa, hathaways 5 love in the afternon

“You are your own worst enemy. If you can learn to stop expecting impossible perfection, in yourself and others, you may find the happiness that has always eluded you.”

She harbors a secret yearning.

As a lover of animals and nature, Beatrix Hathaway has always been more comfortable outdoors than in the ballroom. Even though she participated in the London season in the past, the classic beauty and free-spirited Beatrix has never been swept away or seriously courted… and she has resigned herself to the fate of never finding love. Has the time come for the most unconventional of the Hathaway sisters to settle for an ordinary man—just to avoid spinsterhood?

He is a world-weary cynic.

Captain Christopher Phelan is a handsome, daring soldier who plans to marry Beatrix’s friend, the vivacious flirt Prudence Mercer, when he returns from fighting abroad. But, as he explains in his letters to Pru, life on the battlefield has darkened his soul—and it’s becoming clear that Christopher won’t come back as the same man. When Beatrix learns of Pru’s disappointment, she decides to help by concocting Pru’s letters to Christopher for her. Soon the correspondence between Beatrix and Christopher develops into something fulfilling and deep… and when Christopher comes home, he’s determined to claim the woman he loves. What began as Beatrix’s innocent deception has resulted in the agony of unfulfilled love—and a passion that can’t be denied

5 of 5 stars to Love in the Afternoon by Lisa Kleypas

Another sweet read from Kleypas. Beatrix’ story does not disappoint. She’s as entertaining and adorable as ever. Christopher was hard to love in the beginning because he did a lot of unlikeable things but he redeemed himself enough.

I love this because much like Book 3, there were no dilly-dallying nor unnecessary subplots and that’s why I couldn’t put it down. From the five stars I gave it, this is without a doubt, another favorite.

I would definitely miss the Hathaways and their husbands.

I made a book/character aesthetic for Love in the Afternoon! I feel like I should add it here so more people can see it (since this post is pretty popular). Here is my casting of Beatrix Hathaway and Christopher Phelan:

Hope you guys like it!
