“No love is fully requited. No love is equal. No love is fair. There is always one side that loves more. And you better not be that side—because it suffers.”
They say your first kiss should be earned.
Mine was stolen by a devil in a masquerade mask under the black Chicago sky.
They say the vows you take on your wedding day are sacred.
Mine were broken before we left church.
They say your heart only beats for one man.
Mine split and bled for two rivals who fought for it until the bitter end.
I was promised to Angelo Bandini, the heir to one of the most powerful families in the Chicago Outfit.
Then taken by Senator Wolfe Keaton, who held my father’s sins over his head to force me into marriage.
They say that all great love stories have a happy ending.
I, Francesca Rossi, found myself erasing and rewriting mine until the very last chapter.
And somewhere between these two men, I had to find my forever.
3 of 5 stars to The Kiss Thief by LJ Shen
This book was recommended to me by my sister. It was certainly an enjoyable read but I found myself confused by some of the characters’ reactions to certain situations.
For example: Francesca “cheats” on Keaton by voluntarily kissing her childhood crush out in public. Keaton retaliates by parading around with a model. Instead of Francesca apologizing, she’s the one expecting an apology from Keaton? Granted, Keaton is an as*hole and it was wrong of Keaton to be petty enough to retaliate but Francesa was in the wrong too. I felt like she got away with a lot of the sh*t she did but then again, Keaton is no saint.
Other than that, this was 100% entertaining and I may try to give LJ Shen’s other books a chance.
(P. S. Sorry for the short review. I didn’t know what else to say. Haha)
